FAQ & System Components
Everything you need to know about the components and how the RFInD RFID system works.
System Components in Detail
The RFInD system consists of several components that together enable seamless automatic pallet tracking. Each component is billed separately.
Base Station
The heart of your system
The base station consists of two elements:
- POE Power Supply Switch: A network switch with Power-over-Ethernet that supplies both power and network connectivity to the RFID readers at your gates — all through a single cable.
- Mini-PC: A compact computer that runs the integration logic on-premise. It processes RFID data, communicates with your ERP system, and synchronizes data with the cloud.
RFID Gate
Automatic pallet detection
An RFID gate consists of RAIN UHF RFID antennas mounted at your warehouse entry and exit points. When a pallet passes through, all RFID tags are automatically read.
- Reads hundreds of tags simultaneously in fractions of a second
- Range up to 10 meters
- No line of sight required
- Drive through at normal speed
Labeling Station
Assignment of new shipments
At the labeling station, new shipments are assigned to an RFID tag. The station is billed as a separate component.
- Passive assignment via RFID reader
- Or handheld scanner for mobile assignment
- Or RFID label printer for existing labeling workflows
RFID Tags
Your pallets' identity
Small, rugged transponders attached to pallets. Two variants available:
- Reusable Tags (€1/piece): Durable tags that last for years and can be reused.
- Disposable Labels (€0.15/piece): RFID labels applied together with the regular shipping label. Ideal if you already print labels.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, a base station is required for on-premise integration. It consists of a POE switch (supplies power and network to RFID readers) and a mini-PC (runs integration logic). The base station ensures data is buffered during internet outages and communicates with your local ERP system.
Each component (gate, base station, labeling station) is billed at a uniform rate: €80/month (monthly), €67/month (annual, 10% discount), or €34/month (3-year contract, 40% discount). Calculate your exact costs with our pricing calculator.
Hardware installation typically takes one day. ERP integration can take 1-4 weeks depending on the system. During the integration phase, you can already use the system — data is stored from day one and can be written back to your ERP later. More about the process
Yes! If you already have RAIN UHF RFID readers installed, you can use our software-only solution for just €30/gate/month. Contact us for a compatibility check.
There are three methods: Passive assignment via labeling area, manual assignment with handheld scanner and mobile app, or automatic assignment via RFID label printer. All details here
An RFID gate can read hundreds of tags simultaneously in fractions of a second. The system can process up to 5,000,000 tag scans per reader per month, covering even high-throughput environments.
The base station (mini-PC) buffers all data locally. Once internet connectivity is restored, all data is automatically synchronized. No data loss.
Yes. We are a German company and store all data GDPR-compliant on EU servers. Encrypted data transmission, 10 years data storage, and you can export or delete your data at any time.
Yes, labeling stations are billed as separate components — at the same price as gates and base stations. They are listed as a separate line item in the pricing calculator.
